ABOUT THE ARTIST

Jamie Johnson is an illustrator who shares his time between Edinburgh, Scotland, and Dundee. He has exhibited work and sold zines in various galleries and bookshops across Scotland and recently exhibited at the Sleeping Giant gallery in Toronto, Canada. He regularly contributes editorial illustrations for the Scottish Arts and Culture magazine 'The Skinny' and is currently involved in a collaborative project in Dundee as well as working towards and upcoming show.

"The idea that there is more to a person, place or thing than first meets the eye is central to much of my work. Fine line drawing in particular allows me to explore hidden or coded detailed imagery that represents a trait or feeling in a certain character or surreal narrative.

"A rich tapestry of memories from a lifetime, subtle or obvious, can often be overlooked due to a lack of understanding or prejudices against a subject. This has led me to look for inspiration in unlikely places, discovering interesting characters and intriguing traits and backgrounds, regardless of their status or situation. I pay attention to the various characters in my surroundings growing up in Edinburgh, as well as to the history and folklore surrounding the city and its many characters. I attempt to visualize these discoveries by building up areas of detail with subtle meaning, evident through the use of found materials, foxed vintage paper and old record sleeves as drawing material."

ABOUT THE PRINT

This print is made in-house using archival pigment inks on heavyweight 100% cotton fibre archival paper. Each print is numbered by hand and comes with the artist's signature printed in the border.

Edition dimensions reflect actual paper sizes, not the printed image itself. While we try to maximize image size on all prints, a minimum border of .5 inches is left to allow for easy framing.
