ABOUT THE ARTIST

Karen Iwachow was born in Prague, Czech Republic, before immigrating to Canada with her family at a young age. She attended the creative photography program at Humber College in Toronto and continued to work in the commercial portrait industry there for several years. After traveling extensively throughout India and Europe, she returned to Canada's west coast where she continues to live in her wooden cabin photographing landscapes and still lifes.

"I was 20 years old the first time I saw the ocean. I grew up hearing stories and myths and tales about the lakes and rivers I grew up around and they always had that sense of familiarity every time I would walk by one: the colour, the smell, the distant glimpse of whatever was on the other side.

"When I saw the ocean I was taken aback; the feeling was not at all like the lakes and ponds I was used to. I was intrigued by the massive size of it, and not being able to see what lies on the other side. It sparked my curiosity and imagination and I wanted to jump in and swim to the far shore, wherever it was.

"This series is my way of sharing that feeling."

ABOUT THE PRINT

This print is made in-house using archival pigment inks on heavyweight semi-gloss archival paper. Each print is custom-trimmed and comes with a certificate of authenticity.

Edition dimensions reflect actual paper sizes, not the printed image itself. While we try to maximize image size on all prints, a minimum border of .5 inches is left to allow for easy framing.
